Life of Pi
INFORMATION
Project:Life of Pi Blue Screen Sliding Gate Scaffolding Project
Location:Taiwan, Taichung
Description:During the filming of Life of Pi in Taichung, Sucoot provided a large temporary blue screen support structure and a movable sliding gate scaffold system for the wave-tank set. The project required the blue screen gate to remain openable at all times so that filming equipment and set materials could move in and out efficiently. To meet both stability and movement requirements, the 36 m-long, 13 m-high gate structure was divided into two movable units, supported by rails, special wheels, ballast tanks, and a forklift-assisted moving system.
Challenges
01
Large-scale blue screen gate structure requiring both height and movement capability.
02
Additional wind load and structural demand caused by blue screen and wooden set panels.
03
Need to balance structural stability with efficient gate movement during filming.
Sucoot's Solutions
01
Divided the full gate into two independent movable units for more flexible operation.
02
Increased system width and added ballast tanks to improve stability under wind and load conditions.
03
Designed a forklift-assisted moving device to help shift the heavy sliding gate units efficiently.
